Staff Stories: Hayley Collins

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after I finished school but studying law seemed like a sensible option. I was starting to feel pretty worried when I was four years into my five-year degree and still nothing had grabbed me. That all changed when I studied health law. Suddenly, I found myself sitting down the front, full of questions and hungry to learn.

After I finished the course, I met with my lecturer to discuss career options in health law. She suggested I apply for a role at a boutique firm specialising in health law at the time, which I did. I got a job as a paralegal at that firm and was fortunate to work under some brilliant medical negligence solicitors.

I was admitted as a solicitor in 2017 and have worked almost exclusively in health law ever since. I feel privileged to be able to help people who have been victims of medical negligence by working to achieve the best possible outcome for them.

I started work at The Law Office of Conrad Curry in 2020. I recognised it as a fast-growing firm with exceptionally skilled solicitors, who I knew to be highly regarded in the legal community in Newcastle and beyond. I am thrilled to now be a part of that team!

I have a bad case of the travel bug which has taken me to some amazing places including Singapore, Fiji, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Thailand, Nepal, England, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Greece, Italy, France, Namibia, Zambia, Argentina, Uruguay, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Canada, USA and the Bahamas. So far, completing the Kokoda Trail and the trek to Mt Everest Base Camp have been some of my favourite experiences.

I am passionate about animal rights and one of my dreams is to start an animal sanctuary.

In my time off, I enjoy scuba diving, four-wheel driving on the beach, cooking, snowboarding and camping with my husband Tim, and our two border collies, Leila and Evie.
