What are my rights if I have been injured at work?

If you have been injured at work, your rights to compensation may include:u003cbr/u003e · Medical expensesu003cbr/u003e · Weekly payments of compensationu003cbr/u003e · Domestic assistance for tasks you used to complete but now cannotu003cbr/u003e · Lump sum compensation for a permanent injury

Can I see my own GP or doctor if injured at work?

Yes. You can choose your own GP, as well as your own specialist or physiotherapist for treatment. u003cbr/u003e · Your GP should list the treatment you need in your Certificate of Capacity u003cbr/u003e · Within the first 48 hours after your injury you do not need approval from the insurer to see your GP.

What payments am I entitled to if injured at work?

Provisional weekly payments should start within 7 days after notification.  

What treatment options are available to me if injured at work?

· No approval is necessary to see a specialist, eg, an orthopaedic surgeon within the first 3 months provided your GP has referred you u003cbr/u003e · If referred by your GP, plain x-rays do not need pre-approval if performed with in the first 2 weeksu003cbr/u003e · If referred by your GP along with a referral to a medical specialist you do not need approval for an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI within the first 3 monthsu003cbr/u003e · Within the first month you do not need approval for prescription drugs and over the counter pharmacy items prescribed by your GP u003cbr/u003e · All other treatment should be approved by the insureru003cbr/u003e · You can receive 8 sessions with a physiotherapist on referral from your GP if treatment begins within 3 months of the injury without pre-approval

Can I get help with jobs at home like housework or garden care if injured at work?

Yes. You can claim for Domestic Assistance of up to 6 hours/week for 3 months to assist with tasks you used to do but now cannot, such as cleaning, laundry, gardening, mowing.
