Ground Breaking Uterus Transplant

In recent ground-breaking health news, “Coffs Harbour Mum Kristy Bryant has become the first person in Australia to undergo a uterus transplant as part of a research trial at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney”. The ABC reported that Kirsty Bryant’s uterus was removed because of birth complications that involved a major haemorrhage. As part of a clinical trial, Kristy’s Mum donated her uterus to her daughter and the 16-hour surgery was successful.

The next step in the process is to see if the donated uterus can carry a baby. It was noted that “Ms Bryant hoped the successful surgery would pave the way for other women struggling with their fertility journey”. If you are interested to read the full story, please click here.
